HAML launches work on ₹6,250-cr metro line in Hyderabad

Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML)
Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) has announced the start of work on the 31km long airport metro rail corridor, connecting Mindspace Junction near the Raidurg metro station to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad. The project, estimated to cost the government ₹6,250 crore, is part of phase 2 of the Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) and will complement the 69-km phase-1 built in public-private partnership. The HAML has identified 100 locations for erecting pillars and has begun a ground survey, peg marking its alignment on the ground. Soil testing will be carried out in the next two months to determine the soil-bearing capacity at each location. Of the total 31km distance, 27.5 km will be elevated, 1 km will be on the surface and a 2.5km distance in the airport area will be underground. The project has a deadline of three years for completion and works are being taken up on a war footing. The HMR's phase 2 also includes the Miyapur and BHEL to Lakdikapul corridor (26 km) and a connection between Nagole and LB Nagar (5 km), costing ₹8,453 crore, for which the government has urged the Centre to grant in-principle approval as a jointly owned project with external financial assistance.
