Bullet Train Project Introduces Earthquake Detection System

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project reaches a milestone with the implementation of an earthquake detection system, a first in India. The National High-Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL) installs seismometers along the corridor, adopting Japanese Shinkansen technology for an 'Early Earthquake Detection System.' This initiative aims to bolster passenger safety and protect critical infrastructure. NHSRCL plans to place 28 seismometers along the corridor strategically, with 22 in Maharashtra and Gujarat and six in earthquake-prone areas. Integrated into traction substations and switching posts, these seismometers will detect tremors and trigger automatic power shutdowns, activating emergency brakes to halt trains in affected areas.
