Prime Minister Highlights Expansion of India’s Metro Network
India’s operational Metro network has expanded from 248 km across five cities in 2014 to nearly 1,200 km across 26 cities, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said. More than one crore passengers now travel by Metro services across the country every day.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister highlighted the expansion of urban rail infrastructure and its impact on daily commuting, productivity and quality of life. He said the growth of the network has helped reduce travel time, ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity across urban centres.

Referring to Pune’s recent Metro expansion, Modi said that cities would have faced a much longer wait for Metro connectivity if the network had continued growing at the pace recorded before 2014.

He added that the expansion is part of the government's efforts to transform urban India by improving public transport infrastructure and creating better opportunities for citizens.
