Manipur plans new national highway

The state government in Manipur is planning for a new highway for better connectivity with the rest of the country by connecting Imphal with the NE states via Churachandpur and Singhat with four lanes highway project. The step has been taken up in view of the frequent disturbance either on Imphal-Mao sector of the National Highway 2 or Imphal-Jiribam sector of National Highway 37, the two lifelines of the state. Detail Project Report (DPR) has been put in place. Besides, the government is planning to construct three concrete bridges along the highways and also there is a proposal to have another highway considering the hardship faced by the people of Manipur after the recent breakdown of British era Barak bridge along NH-37 and landslide at Nagaland sector (near Viswema) of NH-2 that had hit the inflow of goods trucks in the state.
