Major Ports' Turnaround Time Drops by 49% in 10 Years

The average turnaround time at major ports has significantly improved, reducing from 93.59 hours in 2013-14 to 48.06 hours in 2023-24, marking a 48.65% decrease. This improvement is the result of various government initiatives, including the construction of new berths, terminals, and parking plazas, as well as the modernization and mechanization of existing infrastructure. Additionally, digitalization has streamlined processes, and enhanced rail and road connectivity has expanded the ports' hinterland reach.
Berth allocation and vessel sequencing at major ports follow the Berthing Policy issued by the Ministry. The ongoing infrastructure development and capacity expansion at these ports include building new terminals, mechanizing existing ones, conducting capital dredging to accommodate larger vessels, and improving road and rail links.
