The Maharashtra government has decided to go ahead with the Pune-Nashik semi high-speed railway project at an investment of ₹16,039 crore. The project was approved by the Union Railway ministry last year. In the state cabinet meeting with both CM and Deputy CM, it was decided that connecting the two districts, which lead in agriculture and industrial sectors, by a direct rail line, will help fast-tracking economic development in the entire belt. MD of Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (MahaRail), Rajesh Kumar Jaiswal, made a presentation on projects that the state-run firm will implement in future. Other projects include the Mumbai-Pune (high-speed railway project one-hour journey), Ratnagiri-Pune, Aurangabad-Chalisgaon, Rotegaon-Kopargaon, Pune-Aurangabad, Pune-Nanded, ChiplunKarad (new line) and Vaidbhavwadi-Kolhapur (newline).
