Maharashtra orders reconstruction of old structures
In a recent development, the state housing minister Jitendra Awhad has directed the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) to fast track the cluster redevelopment of old and dilapidated buildings in Kamathipura area. A decision to this effect was taken in review meeting held recently. The minister also ordered the Mumbai Building Repairs and Reconstruction Board (MBRRB) to carry out detailed survey of these buildings and prepare a plan on the lines of the cluster redevelopment undertaken by the Saifee Burhani Upliftment Trust in Bhendi Bazar. It may be recalled that in 2016, the MBRRB had expressed interest to undertake cluster redevelopment of old and dilapidated buildings in the area, the state government said in an official statement.
