MahaMetro speeds up ₹5,000-cr metro line

MahaMetro in a statement said that the preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Chakan-Nashik Phata line is currently underway and it would be ready in the next couple of months. The Maha Metro also reiterated that the extension of line from Pimpri to Nigdi, a four-km stretch, and Swargate to Katraj, a six-km stretch, on Corridor One, would cost around ₹5,000 crore, Managing Director Brijesh Dixit, said, elaborating that the line would initially be a Neo Metro considering less traffic on the route. After the traffic increases, MahaMetro will convert it to normal Metro. Neo Metro are tyred buses that are operated by overhead electric traction as there is no need of laying tracks or elaborate signaling system. It will be an elevated Metro so that all crossing can be taken care of and run from one end to another without stopping at crossings and that the Nigdi to Pimpri extension for the elevated route would cost ₹1,000 crore while Swargate to Katraj extension will entailed around ₹4,000 crore.
