The state government in Kerala has selected Konkan Railway Corporation to execute the Wayanad-Kozhikode tunnel road, an alternative to the ghat road connecting Kozhikode and Bengaluru through Wayanad for which the state government has already cleared ₹600 crore to launch the project. The Wayanad ghat road, the lone link between Kozhikode and Wayanad, faces huge traffic pressure and is also hit by countless landslides during monsoons, said official sources, elaborating that the Konkan Railway will submit the Detailed Project Report (DPR) shortly as the state government had sanctioned ₹5 crore for preparing the DPR for the project, which is slated to be commissioned in 38 months and that the state had already cleared ₹600 crore to kick start the project and remaining portion of the funds would be sourced through Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) ). The Konkan Railway had handed over a 'letter of intent' to the state government expressing interest in taking over the 5.5-km long tunnel road project that will start from Anakkampoyil in Kozhikode district will end at Kalladi, near Meppadi in Wayanad.
