Kolkata Metro Rail officials are upbeat on the enhanced allocation for the 32 km Kavi Subhash-Airport via Rajarhat link metro corridor, which will speed up the metro project entailing a total investment of Rs.4,259 crore. All the four Metro projects sanctioned to date are currently in various stages of completion and till 2017, the contractor has already invested nearly Rs.1,300 crore and now the entire stretch will be commissioned by 2020. Prior to that two phases - upto Ruby Crossing and then to Sector-V - will be thrown open for travelling public. Till the end of 2017, barely Rs.560 crore of the total sanctioned cost of Rs.2,913.5 crore could be spent. However, removal of land hurdles and the progress in the last few months seem to have prompted the railways to increase the outlays for this year to more than thrice of the Rs.50 crore allotted for 2017-18 Budget.
