Kokrajhar-Gelephu Rail Link Proposed to Boost India-Bhutan Connectivity

A new 69.04 km railway line from Kokrajhar in Assam to Gelephu in Bhutan has been proposed to enhance cross-border connectivity and strengthen bilateral ties. Estimated at ₹3,500 crore, the project includes six new stations—Balajan, Garubhasa, Runikhata, Shantipur, Dadgiri, and Gelephu—along with major infrastructure developments such as bridges, viaducts, and road crossings. The Final Location Survey (FLS) is complete, and the Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been submitted for approval.
