The fisheries department of the state government in Kerala is set to start work on two more apartment projects for fishermen modeled on Muttathara housing scheme. These will come up at Karode and Beemapally areas and will have eight flats of 540 sq.ft with two bedrooms, dining area, kitchen and bathrooms complete with sanitary fittings. The housing project is primarily aimed at beneficiaries from four coastal villages, namely Valiyathura, Cheriyathura, Valiyathoppu and Cheriyathoppu. Three housing complexes will come up at Beemapally and as many as 16 will be constructed at Karode for 128 families. The Uralungal Labour Contract Society, which had executed Muttathara housing scheme, has bagged the contract for the project. Kerala coastal area Development Corporation will undertake construction of housing complex at Karode. The housing units for fishermen are conceived at a total cost of ₹10 lakh per unit and will rehabilitate families from coastal villages like Pozhiyoor and Kollangode, among others at Karode.
