The CM of Karnataka laid the foundation stone for the construction of an airport at Shivamogga area. The project will have a well-equipped airport at a cost of ₹220 crore on an area of 662.38 acres, and will be taken up in two phases. It is slated to be commissioned in a year's time. The first phase of the airport project consists of a runway, taxiway, apron, approach road, a peripheral road and a compound wall. The second phase will house a terminal building, an ATC tower, and a fire station building. The project has been planned under the Udan scheme of the Central government and has been envisaged to provide affordable air travel to people. The CM directed the officials concerned to complete the airport work on time without compromising on the quality of the construction materials.
