Karnataka gets Rs. 747-cr road projects

In an attempt to provide world class road facilities to the motorists across the state, the highway department of the state government in Karnataka has decided to build multiple road stretches crisscrossing the state at a staggering investment worth Rs. 747cr, said official sources adding that in the process of constructing the Karkala-BC Road stretch, which is being developed at a cost of Rs. 220-cr to provide direct connectivity between Karkala region and Mangaluru-Bengaluru and that the national highway and that the BC Road-Mulki section stretch has been planned at a cost of Rs. 255-cr and would serve as a bypass between Mangaluru-Bengaluru National Highway and other regions including Udupi and among others. Similarly, the Thokkottu-Melkar section, which will be made a four-lane at an estimated cost of Rs. 280cr, will directly connect Mangaluru-Bengaluru National Highway and National Highway 66 up to Kerala. Once these roads are commissioned vehicles plying to and from Udupi as well as Kerala, need not come till Mangaluru for their onward journeys, they added.
