Karnataka Approves Rs 391 Cr Project to Restore Bengaluru’s Byramangala Lake

Byramangala-Lake
The Karnataka government has cleared a Rs 391 crore restoration project for Byramangala Lake, one of Bengaluru’s most polluted water bodies. Decades of untreated sewage inflow from the Vrushabhavathi River have severely contaminated the lake, prompting urgent intervention.

The rejuvenation effort will be jointly implemented by the Minor Irrigation Department and the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB). A key component of the project is a new Rs 230 crore sewage treatment plant (STP) to be constructed near the lake. The facility will treat 100 million litres of sewage per day (MLD), ensuring no untreated wastewater enters the lake. The STP is expected to become operational within three years.
