Kanpur Metro speeds up IIT-Naubasta corridor

The Kanpur Metro has fast tracked the development of IIT Kanpur-Naubasta metro line of about 32.385 km with thirty stations and allied work including the procurement of metro cars. Development of the 1st priority corridor of the first phase of the Kanpur Metro project has already commenced. In the current budget, the state government has approved funds worth EUR 46.6 million for the phase-I of the project, which includes the development of a line connecting IIT Kanpur-Naubasta where the 2nd corridor would provide the metro link among Agriculture University-Barra-8. The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) had assessed the Kanpur Metro project and committed funding assistance for the mega project, which involves an investment of about €1.5 billion, informed MD of UPMRCL, Kumar Keshav, who said that the design work of the underground and elevated Kanpur Metro stations are expected to finish during the lockdown period by Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRCL) along with the consultancy firm Systra MVA India, which has been awarded the designing work of the metro stations.
