In an attempt to add to its cargo handling capacity, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) is all set to expand its capacity involving an investment worth Rs. 250-cr and has already identified the location for the planned expansion, Deputy Chairman Neeraj Bansal said, adding that the Trust will award contract in the next six months. As of now, the port has three terminals with the fourth container terminal being currently built on war footings. Apart from laying thrust on coastal area development, the port is also planning to increase the usage of rail rakes and shift 30% of its cargo to railways. Meanwhile, in the last couple of years, the port has taken several steps to improve turnaround time by reducing documentation process and focusing on economical operations for business partners, he added.
