Jewar airport to get dedicated metro corridor
An elevated road, a Rapid Rail Transport System (RRTS) network and a dedicated direct Metro corridor from Indira Gandhi International Airport to Jewar are among the other connectivity projects that Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has planned for the international airport. The foundation stone for the dedicated metro corridors is slated to be laid in October this year. In this connection the nodal agency has approached the National Capital Region Transport Corporation to come out with a feasibility report along these lines. For the RRTS rapid rail network, there are three routes including Delhi to Meerut, Delhi to Panipat and Delhi to Palwal. YEIDA is planning to tap the Delhi-Meerut route at Ashok Nagar area on the Delhi-Noida border. The study is being conducted by NCRTC to find a direct transport corridor from Jewar to IGI, said CEO, YEIDA, Arunvir Singh. The Authority has also approached DMRC to conduct a study for a dedicated Airport Expressway corridor. Three corridors which have been prioritized are expected to culminate at Sarai Kale Khan as connecting this point to Jewar Airport through RRTS is being preferred to facilitate traffic from Delhi and neighboring regions to Jewar airport, he added.
