Adding to the road infrastructure across the state, the Jammu and Kashmir government plans to upgrade 4000 km of roads with funds flowing from central sources. As a matter of fact, the government has in its kitty Rs.4800 crore from the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and the Central Road Fund (CRF) for the current fiscal. It also has Rs.2800 crore under PMGSY, another Rs.1000 crore under the same program for works in the pipeline, and Rs.1000 crore under CRF, an official spokesperson said, adding that the Public Works Department planned to rebuild around 4000 km of road length across the state, for which the workforce and machinery had already been mobilized for the road upgrading program across the state this year itself. Preference will be given to cities, towns, tourist resorts, and allied areas.
