IRB infrastructure Developers is all set to win the contract for operating and collecting toll for Mumbai-Pune Expressway, after it emerged as the only player in the race for the bids invited by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), said sources, disclosing that MSRDC had floated a tender to appoint a toll collection agency for Mumbai-Pune Expressway after IRB Infrastructure's contract to operate and maintain it came to an end after 15 years in August last year. The response remained lackluster even after several extensions in the deadline for bidding. After it received just one bid from IRB Infrastructure, it called for fresh bids in order to comply with the Central Vigilance Commission guidelines. MSRDC invited fresh bids and IRB Infrastructure has emerged as the only bidder; this time the project will be awarded to the company. The 94.5-km long expressway is India's first six-lane concrete, high-speed, access controlled, tolled expressway which has significantly reduced the travel time between Mumbai and Pune. MSRDC entered into a concession agreement with IRB Infrastructure in August 2004 to operate and maintain the Mumbai-Pune Expressway as well as to develop, operate and maintain National Highway-4 that connects Mumbai and Pune.
