Indian Railways to add 400-km DFC corridor this fiscal
Indian Railways has planned to add about 400 km in the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) by the end of this financial year. Union Railway Minister informed that the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India (DFCCIL) is currently constructing the 1504 km long Western DFC and 1856 km long Eastern DFC. These are freight corridors which only carry freight traffic therefore adding to the speed exponentially, and bringing down the cost while adding huge capacity to be able to transport volume goods as well as a small parcel. PM inaugurated the first 650 km of dedicated freight corridor, on both, the Eastern and the Western front and the railway is building dedicated freight corridors to provide exclusive movement on fast speeds for goods trains. Dedicated Freight corridor is being seen as a game-changer in Economic Development of the country. The Eastern DFC starting from Sahnewal near Ludhiana (Punjab) will pass through Punjab, Haryana, UP, Bihar and Jharkhand to terminate at Dankuni in West Bengal. The Western DFC starts from Dadri in UP to Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT) in Mumbai and will traverse through UP, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra of WDFC. The 2800 km route is likely to be commissioned by June 2022.
