Indian Railways Sets New Freight Record: 892 Train Interchanges on DFC Network

Indian-Railway
Indian Railways has set a new freight movement record through the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC), reinforcing its position as a fast, reliable, and cost-effective freight transportation system. On 5 January 2026, the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) handled 892 freight train interchanges with five Indian Railways zones in a single day — the highest since the commissioning of the corridors. The previous record was 865 trains, achieved on 4 January 2026.

This boost in operational efficiency is reducing congestion on conventional passenger routes, improving punctuality, and lowering logistics costs for industries. The record performance was enabled by advanced traffic management, automated signalling, real-time monitoring, centralised digital control systems, and efficient yard operations. High-power locomotives and strong coordination among control rooms and train crews ensured safe, uninterrupted, and fuel-efficient movement even on high-density sections.
