India Signs $248 Mn Deal with Russia for T-72 Tank Engines
The Ministry of Defence has signed a $248 million contract with Rosoboronexport, Russia, for the procurement of 1000 HP engines for T-72 tanks. The engines will be supplied in fully formed, completely knocked down, and semi knocked down conditions.

The agreement also includes Transfer of Technology (ToT) to Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (Heavy Vehicle Factory), Avadi, Chennai, for local integration and licensed production, supporting the 'Make in India' initiative in the defence sector.
Upgrading the T-72 tank fleet, currently equipped with 780 HP engines, to 1000 HP engines will significantly enhance the Indian Army's battlefield mobility and offensive capability.
