In a giant leap forward in the road construction activities, the Central government has set its sights to achieve 2-lakh-km road lengths by the end of this year as compared to 96,000 km currently, Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said, elaborating that the work on expanding the road network in Maharashtra and in the rest of the country is on war footing. The main focus is development of highways and construction of expressways as these will not only help save fuel but also time and energy of the road users and government agencies. The ministry has begun construction of 13 expressways in the country with the best quality material and will sport the latest technology, he said.
