India, Mauritius Strengthen Ties; PM Modi Unveils MAHASAGAR Vision
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam held wide-ranging talks during Modi’s state visit to Mauritius, reaffirming their strong bilateral ties.

During the visit, PM Modi unveiled India's new vision for the Global South, named MAHASAGAR — Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions. He said the initiative builds on India’s SAGAR vision for regional stability and prosperity and will guide India’s broader engagement with developing nations.
The two leaders highlighted India's longstanding role as Mauritius' key development partner, supporting major infrastructure projects such as the Metro Express, Supreme Court building, ENT Hospital, social housing, and educational initiatives. The Mauritius PM thanked India for its sustained assistance, which has transformed the country’s landscape and benefited its people.
They also acknowledged India's crucial support during Cyclone Chido, including emergency aid and the use of the newly developed runway and jetty at Agalega, built with Indian assistance.
Looking ahead, both leaders agreed to expedite key projects, including the supply of 100 electric buses and charging stations, Phase II of High Impact Community Development Projects, replacement of 100 km of water pipelines, and discussions on building a new Parliament and redeveloping the Ganga Talao Spiritual Sanctuary with Indian grant assistance.
