India Expands National Highway Network, Strengthens Quality & Safety Measures

Since April 2014, India has constructed and developed 1,01,900 km of National Highways (NHs), marking a 130% increase in annual construction compared to the 2004-2014 period. Currently, 1,366 projects covering 32,366 km are under construction nationwide, with most slated for completion by FY 2028.
Highway projects adhere to government-mandated standards, including Indian Roads Congress (IRC) codes, ensuring quality and safety. Road safety audits are conducted at design, construction, and operation stages to maintain compliance. Contractors are responsible for execution, with oversight from consultants, government officials, and third-party auditors to ensure adherence to specifications.
The Jalore and Sirohi district headquarters in Rajasthan are already linked to the NH network via NH-325 and NH-62.
