India & ADB Sign $200M Loan Contract for Infra Development in Uttarakhand

The Government of India and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a $200 million loan agreement today to upgrade urban infrastructure in Uttarakhand, focusing on enhancing water supply, sanitation, urban mobility, and flood management in the region.
The project centers on Haldwani, the state's economic hub, where improvements include 16 km of climate-resilient roads, intelligent traffic systems, and the deployment of compressed natural gas and electric buses. For flood resilience, 36 km of stormwater drains and a disaster early warning system will be introduced, along with a green-certified administrative complex and bus terminal to streamline public services.
In Champawat, Kichha, Kotdwar, and Vikasnagar, the project will enhance water supply with 1,024 km of climate-resilient pipelines, smart water meters, 26 tubewells, reservoirs, and a 3.5 million-litre-per-day water treatment plant. Sanitation services in Vikasnagar will also see improvements with new sewage treatment facilities, benefiting approximately 2,000 households.
