According to the Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways and Shipping the Road Transport ministry has added 4,507 km of state roads as new National Highways in Himachal Pradesh. In this connection, in-principle approval was granted in the recent past and the future course of action depends on the outcome of their Detailed Project Reports (DPRs). The initiatives have also been taken up for preparation of DPRs, which is currently in full swing. Prior to this, the ministry had declared about 246 kms of state as new highways with that the total length of National Highways in Himachal Pradesh was increased to about 2,642 km and with the newest addition the total length of the highways in the state went up to 7, 149 km.
