Shortly after assuming office as the state CM for a second term, Manohar Lal Khattar has intensified efforts to get international status for the airport at Hisar. He has held detailed discussions with the Defence Minister and has sent letters to the PM requesting them to make the state a hub for defence equipment manufacturing and also for relocating the Bengaluru-headquartered Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd's (HAL) maintenance, repair and overhaul hub to serve defence aircraft and helicopters at the recently inaugurated airport in Hisar. The state government has land of about 3,000 acres available near the Hisar airport, which is about 160 km from Delhi, connected by NH 10. He has urged the Defence Minister to make the state a defence equipment manufacturing hub and for faster completion of the bulletproof jacket manufacturing project at Rohtak.
