Gujarat hastens ₹22,000-cr high speed rail corridor
The ₹22,000 crore Ahmedabad-Rajkot high-speed 220-km rail corridor ha been fast tracked by the state administration. The state government has initiated work on the aerial survey and since it will run along the existing highway there is no need to acquire new land for the mega project. The survey will study traffic movement and direction, congestion points, elevation and curves along the NH stretch, and accident zones. The semi high-speed train will run at a speed of over 160-km/hour. Gujarat Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (G-Ride), which is spearheading the project, said that over 45 lakh rail passengers travel per annum between Ahmedabad and Rajkot. One of the directors of G-Ride, Ashwini Kumar, said that passenger traffic between the twin cities has risen exponentially in the last 10 years and crossed the 45-lakh mark in 2017 as compared to 19 lakh in 2007.
