Gujarat goes for Rs.11,830 cr road projects

As many as 36 national highway projects, entailing an investment of Rs.11,830 crore have recently been launched in Gujarat, union minister of state for road construction and highways, Mansukh Mandaviya said, claiming that the total length of national highways in Gujarat is 5,145 km, of which 1,093 km has been added since April 2014 after the current government came to power at the Centre. Additionally, highway projects of almost Rs.23,000 crore are in the pipeline and will be approved within next three months across the country. Between 2011 and 2014, highways of 15,000 km were built and this has gone upto 18,740 km in last three years. The minister also said that as against 11 km under the UPA government, highway construction has touched an average of 28 km per day under the NDA government. He also informed that 35,000 km of roads have been proposed to be built at a cost of Rs.5.35 lakh crore under the Bhararmala project. Of this, 5,751 km of highways and seven logistics parks would come up in Gujarat at an investment of Rs.1.02 lakh crore, he added.
