Green Building Conference advocates sustainable materials for India’s Net Zero 2070 goal
A 3-day conference organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) – Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) on Green Buildings concluded successfully at Bengaluru’s BIEC Grounds. The event featured companies showcasing and promoting green products and materials for sustainable construction. The Green Building Congress 2024 facilitated brainstorming sessions over three days, with panelists emphasizing the importance of incorporating sustainability in green infrastructure development to support India's commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2070. Participating companies also welcomed the government's move to provide incentives and subsidies to businesses that develop sustainable products and materials for building construction.
The sessions highlighted the immense opportunities in renewable energy expansion, green infrastructure, and sustainable industrial practices. Experts underscored the potential of leveraging innovations in clean energy, electric mobility, and green finance to position India as a global climate leader. Discussions also delved into India's strategic initiatives and advancements in sustainable development, showcasing the nation’s leadership and growth potential in achieving net-zero emissions. A key panel discussion, ‘Development of Ecosystem for Net Zero,’ explored the collaborative efforts needed to create a sustainable ecosystem. The session emphasized the importance of policy frameworks, technological innovation, public-private partnerships, and financial investments in building supportive infrastructure for industries, governments, and communities to transition to net-zero emissions.
The session ‘Smart Technologies – Enhancing Building Intelligence’ highlighted how advanced systems, including automation and AI, can improve energy efficiency, security, and comfort in buildings. It also explored the role of technologies such as Digital Twins and Building Information Modeling (BIM) in creating virtual models to enhance monitoring and maintenance processes. Another session, ‘Roadmap for Achieving Net Zero in the Building and Built Environment,’ examined strategic approaches and collaborative efforts to achieve Net Zero in the construction sector. Discussions focused on innovations, policy measures, and international partnerships to drive sustainable development in the built environment.
The conference, which witnessed significant footfall, also spotlighted the critical role of women in sustainability. Their contributions to managing natural resources, advocating for environmental protection, and leading community-driven conservation initiatives were celebrated. Panelists emphasized their impact on sustainable architecture, biodiversity preservation, water conservation, and climate change adaptation, which collectively enhance environmental resilience. The event featured prominent exhibitors, including ARS Steel, Everest, Wipro, Carrier, LuminX, Bluestar, Tata Bluescope Steel, Godrej, Siemens, Nippon Paint, SaintGobain, and Enwud, reinforcing its reputation as Asia’s largest expo on the Green Built Environment. The IGBC Project Awards were also presented during the event.
