The Central Government has cleared the biggest ever Rs. 2,842-cr road package for Jammu and Kashmir, which includes the construction of 513 roads and 29 bridges in the State, said official sources, elaborating that a sum of Rs. 2842.32-cr has been sanctioned under PMGSY-I (Phase X). The approved package not only covers the projects under new road connectivity, but also 86 existing roads having total length of 787 kms commanding a cost of Rs. 837-cr have been cleared for the up-gradation. The Central Government under PMGSY provided Rs. 3200-cr in 16 years against the road proposals of Rs. 5100-cr for nine phases. The whopping amount of Rs. 2,842-cr has been cleared for just one phase (10th under Stage I and Stage II). This time round important roads which needed immediate upgradation and special attention were also included in the Project, Phase X with the special efforts of the Minister for R&B, Abdul Rehman Veeri.
