Govt to Launch ₹83,000 Cr Mega Port Projects in TN & Maharashtra
The Indian government is set to unveil two massive port projects, collectively worth more than ₹83,000 crore, in Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra ahead of the announcement of election dates. The project in Tamil Nadu aims to enhance capacity at the Chidambaranar port, while the Vadhavan port in Maharashtra represents the first major central government port development in over two decades. Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the Chidambaranar Port's ₹7,056 crore Outer Harbour project, which will add 4 million TEUs of capacity. Additionally, the Cabinet is expected to approve the ₹76,000 crore Vadhavan Port project within the next two weeks. These initiatives signify a significant boost to the port and shipping sector, enhancing capacity and facilitating economic growth.
