Govt plans Rs. 25,000-cr port project in TN

Port Projects in Tamil Nadu
In addition to build two other port projects such as Sagar port (West Bengal) and Wadhawan port (Mumbai), the concerned ministry has also decided to setup Colachel port in Kanyakumari district in Tamil Nadu at an investment worth Rs. 25,000-cr where the first phase of the project will be built at an investment worth Rs. 6,575cr.

The government has taken this initiative in view of the fact that the sector holds huge future business opportunities, shipping minister said, elaborating that he has already discussed all these issues with the Indo-American Chambers Of Commerce while inviting foreign investors to the country. They are very much impressed by the presentation and are willing to invest in India. Talking about ease of doing business in India, the minister said, currently, there are no roadblocks, no land acquisition or forest clearance problems. The decision to build port near Colachel in Kanyakumari has received accolades from the State as industry-insiders believe the initiative would bring in a lot of benefits for Tamil Nadu as the port in question will not only just act as a major gateway container port for Indian cargo that is currently being trans-shipped outside the country, but also become a transshipment hub for the global east-west trade route.
