The Union government has targeted to invest a whopping sum of Rs. 2 lakh-cr in the road and highways sector of Uttar Pradesh, Union Transport Minister, Nitin Gadkari, said recently, adding that the targeted projects will be undertaken in the State in the next two years. He further added that projects of Rs. 60,000-cr are currently underway in the state. He also laid the foundation stone of three projects -Rs. 806-cr Varanasi-Jaunpur stretch on National Highway No. 56, Rs. 785-cr Varanasi-Ajamgarh stretch on NH 233, and Varanasi-Gazipur stretch on NH 29. The Varanasi-Gazipur stretch will entail an investment of Rs. 868-cr and all these highway stretches are scheduled to be completed by June 2018. These road projects would result in all-round development of the State by promoting seamless flow of cargo traffic and passengers, promote tourism, minimizing road accidents, besides boosting economic activities resulting in all round economic development across the state.
