Govt gives security nod to ₹29,560-cr Jewar Intl Airport
The Central government has given security clearance to Swiss firm Zurich Airport International AG for developing ₹29,560 crore Jewar international airport on the western fringes of Uttar Pradesh, informed Principal Secretary, Uttar Pradesh government, SP Goyal. The company had emerged as the highest bidder to build the Airport in Jewar, on the outskirts of the national capital. It had outbid many infra building giants like Adani Enterprises, DIAL and Anchorage Infrastructure Investments Holding. The airport will be the biggest in the country, spread over 5,000 hectares. The first phase will be cover 1,334 hectares and will cost ₹4,588 crore. The project is being managed and operated by the Noida International Airport (NIAL), a special agency floated by the government, which wants to start operations of the first phase by 2022-23. By the end of the fourth phase, the airport is likely to have six runways. The Airport will be 130 km from Agra, 72 km from Delhi's IGI airport, 40 km from Noida, and 28 km from Greater Noida.
