Govt. fast tracks ₹20,535 cr projects in port sector

As many as 39 port projects across the country, entailing an investment of ₹20,535 crore, are currently under implementation to augment the capacity across 12 major ports in the country. These projects are part of the expansion program of 112 ports, involving a total investment of ₹69,636 crore that have been planned to increase the port capacity to 3,500 million tons per annum (mtpa) to cater to the projected traffic of 2,500 mtpa by 2025, Shipping Ministry sources said, adding that 15 projects worth ₹6,920 crore have already been completed, while 11 projects entailing an investment of ₹5,485 crore are currently under the tendering process. These capacity expansions across the total number of ports were identified for implementation over the next 20 years and are expected to add 780 mtpa capacities at major ports in the country.
