Govt clears widening of NH-39 in NE

Dimapur-Kohima stretch of National Highway 39
In order to boost economic activities in the region, the Union Transport ministry has decided the widening of the Dimapur-Kohima stretch of National Highway 39, into four lane, said official sources, adding that the road stretch will be constructed by the National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL). The project will also enable the state government to set up top-class infrastructure including establishing cold chain facilities across the state by 2020. Currently, due to Nagaland’s poor road connectivity and poorer power supply, the state has not been able to exploit its huge horticulture potential producing fruit and agro products like banana, papaya, pineapple, chillies, ginger and a host of other products which result in 45% post-harvest losses.
