The Government of India is implementing nationwide awareness programmes to promote Renewable Energy through digital platforms, mass media and institutional partnerships. The initiatives are being carried out by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy using websites, social media, mobile applications and advertising campaigns across print, outdoor, television and radio.

The outreach programmes are conducted in collaboration with agencies such as Central Bureau of Communication, National Film Development Corporation of India, Doordarshan and All India Radio, along with State Nodal Agencies and academic institutions. Financial support has also been provided to state agencies and DISCOMs to carry out information, education and communication activities across rural and remote areas, with funds allocated to 27 states and Union Territories during FY 2025–26.

Awareness campaigns include promotional activities such as hoardings, banners, print advertisements, radio jingles, melas and mobile outreach initiatives like Surya Rath to spread information about renewable energy schemes. The ministry also conducts review meetings, capacity building workshops and public awareness programmes across the country.

Several reputed institutions are supporting renewable energy education and skill development, including IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Roorkee, National Institute of Solar Energy and Skill Council for Green Jobs. Key initiatives include the Jal Urjamitra programme led by IIT Roorkee, training programmes for the green hydrogen sector through national skill institutes and technical institutes, and postgraduate courses in renewable energy and sustainable development offered in partnership with institutions such as Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology Jalandhar and Aligarh Muslim University.

These initiatives aim to strengthen awareness, technical education and skilled workforce development in India’s expanding renewable energy sector.
