The Goa government has decided to invest ₹700 crore on the construction and upgrading of bus terminals in four towns, namely, Panaji, Margao, Mapusa and Bicholim. The Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) has readied estimates, design and concept plan and sent them to the transport department, which is in the process of seeking approval from state authorities. GSIDC has prepared an estimate of ₹350 crore for construction of a new bus station in Margao, which has been a long-pending demand of the people in South Goa. It will be built on an area of 38,000 sq m. As part of the upgrading project, the state will also spend around ₹210 crore for the construction of a new bus stand in Mapusa on an area of 19,000 sq m. The state government has given provisional approval for its construction. Meanwhile, GSIDC has prepared an estimate for new construction of the existing bus stand at Panaji at an investment of ₹100 crore. In Bicholim, the foundation stone for a similar project has already been laid and it will entail an investment of ₹18 crores.
