GMC earmarks Rs.2,241 cr for smart city

The Ghaziabad Municipal Committee (GMC) in a recent move has set aside worth Rs.2,241 crore for setting up a world-class smart city within its jurisdiction. The new Smart City proposal, which the GMC has sent to the Union Urban Development ministry for competing in the fifth round of the mission wherein the fifth round of the ambitious Central government mission is also the final round in which 17 cities across the country, including Ghaziabad, will compete for 10 slots. The total sum will be spent on two components of the plan - area-based development and pan-city solutions, GDA executive engineer, Sanjay Chauhan said that the region ear-marked for area-based development in the city has been finalized at 1,056.5 acres. This corresponds to the region located between Vaishali metro station and the CISF Road in Indirapuram. Infrastructure work including roads, 24X7 water supply, streets carpeting, canal rejuvenation and landscaping will be undertaken in this area. Special projects including local transport and underground cabling of overhead electricity wires are also part of infrastructure development to be undertaken in the area.
