In a recent development, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has recently fast tracked Madhapur tunnel project that connects Inorbit mall with Khajaguda junction entailing an investment worth Rs. 600 crore. In the latest move, citing funding shortage, the GHMC has reduced the length of the tunnel from 5.5 km to 2.5 km and with this the project cost has also been reduced from Rs.1,400 crore to Rs.600 crore. As part of long term plans and to handle the traffic volume in Madhapur and neighboring areas, the GHMC planned to take up this massive project on the fast tracked basis. Under this initiative, a tunnel covering a length of over 500 metre is being planned beneath the hillock in the area. Prior to this, the GHMC had planned a 5.5 km road connecting Inorbit Mall to Chitrapuri Colony via Hyderabad Knowledge City, Khajaguda junction, extending up to Phoenix Junction via Nanakramguda, Outer Ring Road, claimed official sources.
