In order to inject a major funding booster to the Kochi metro project, the France development agency, AFD, has announced its commitment to finance the second phase of Kochi Metro from Jawaharlal Nehru stadium near Palarivattom to Infopark on the outskirts of Kakkanad, said director, AFD, Nicolas Fornage, adding that the player is confident that the commercial operational deadline will be met by April, 2017 and that the company is committed to fulfilling Kochi Metro Rail Ltd's request to fund the second phase of the Kochi Metro and the improvements of major junctions like Edappally and Kalamassery. He further said adding that the plan to approve a formal agreement by strictly adhering to the stipulated timelines. While managing director KMRL, Elias George said the phase one and two of Kochi Metro, Water Metro and Smart City projects would together bring in a total investment of Rs 11,000-cr to the city, of which Rs 9,000-cr would be set aside for transport related projects alone, he added.
