ECoR floats tenders for bridge on 289-km rail line
The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has invited tenders for a bridge on Tel river as part of the 289-km-long Khurda Road-Balangir for which the Railways has sanctioned ₹350 crore in the interim budget this year. The estimated cost of the work is ₹23 crore and work on the entire rail line will be taken up simultaneously. Sanctioned in 1994-95, the rail line will connect the western part of the state to coastal Odisha via Khordha, Nayagarh, Boudh, Sonepur and Balangir districts. The 1-km bridge will cross the Tel river, a major tributary of the Mahanadi, near Sonepur town. Soil investigation has been carried out and steel girders for the bridge are being fabricated in Mughalsarai railway engineering workshop, informed ECoR sources.
