Delhi unveils ₹700-cr underground bypass tunnel

Bypass Tunnel
The Delhi government has decided to construct an underground bypass tunnel at a cost of ₹700 crore to cut down travel time to various destinations by up to three hours including to airports and railway stations. The tunnel will ease traffic in areas such as ITO, Ring Road and Mathura Road; ITO is one of the biggest bottlenecks with over 3 lakh vehicles using this route daily. Commuters from Noida can bypass this route once the tunnel is ready. The Ring Road will also benefit as it sees routine snarls, as will the Bhairon Marg intersection on the Ring Road. The government is currently working out the details for the 1.2 km long tunnel and six underpasses. The tunnel will also help in decreasing air pollution aggravated by traffic jams and idling vehicles.
