The two flyovers on Mahatma Gandhi Road in Punjabi Bagh will be expanded and a third will be built to ease vehicular traffic movement at a combined cost of ₹300 crore, said PWD sources. The plan is turn the two one-way flyovers into three lanes each in both directions and also increasing their length. The flyover at the Club Road intersection is around 600 m long and will now be extended up to ESI Hospital, taking its overall length to around 1.5-km on completion. The projects will be completed in three phases: the first phase will include widening of the flyover at Club Road intersection and construction of additional ramps for its extension. In the second phase, work would be undertaken to expand the Moti Nagar flyover and also erecting a new parallel flyover. In the third phase, the ramps from Club Road to ESI Hospital will be given the superstructure required to create an elevated extension.
