Highway project
The flyover across Krishna River to connect the capital city region of Amaravati in Guntur and Krishna districts in Andhra Pradesh has now become reality as the state government has resolved issues of land acquisition for the mega road project. The work on the construction of six-lane NH has commenced near Venkatapalem in Amaravati area in Guntur district and the contractor of the flyover, Adani group, is all set to start the construction work on the project. The project is expected to ease traffic congestion in Vijayawada city by creating a bypass to the existing National Highways passing through Vijayawada. NHAI took up the project after witnessing a heavy traffic jam on Kanakadurga Varadhi, the lone flyover in operation, to handle the heavy vehicles between Chennai-Howrah. The present state government, after taking over the reins of the state, dropped earlier alignment of the previous government including the iconic bridge plans and asked NHAI to go ahead with its original plan to build the flyover. After clearing all the hurdles related to the land acquisition, the state has launched the work on it.
