A massive flood has been reported in Uttarakhand's Joshimath area after a glacier broke in Dhauli Ganga valley. A dam of the Tapovan power project was breached. Reports suggested that the dam has been washed away.

Teams of ITBP and SDRF personnel were rushed to the affected areas to rescue the villagers and locals. Meanwhile, the rivers in the region witnessed flash floods soon after the glacier broke. State Disaster Response Force, DIG Ridhim Aggarwal, informed that massive destruction is feared and more than 150 labourers working at the Rishi Ganga power project may have been directly affected.

SN Pradhan, DG NDRF said, “Teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are already deployed in Joshimath. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has already moved from Dehradun to Joshimath. We are organising airlift for 3-4 more teams from Delhi to Dehradun onwards to Joshimath."
