Even as construction work is set to commence on a part of the 118.9-km phase-2 metro rail, the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has started scouting for a general consultant to oversee construction of another portion of the corridors. CMRL has called for expression of interest from firms to work as a general consultant for corridor-4 of phase-2. The corridor will be from Lighthouse to Poonamallee bypass covering 26.1km. Tenders for construction of the corridor are likely to be floated in the immediate future, said an official spokesperson. Among others, the work includes construction of Wimco Nagar depot which is being developed as an elevated structure at a height of 12 mtr and across 15,500 sq.m area, with 16 lines including one line for the station, linked to the mainline proceeding towards Wimco Nagar elevated station through a 600m link corridor. CMRL will also build 7.5 mtr wide internal roads around the depot, storm water drains and a water tank with a capacity of six lakh liters. Another 10,000 sq.m area near the elevated depot will be used to build passenger amenities such as parking space and apart from this a 1,055 sq.m auto coach washing plant will have three-levels for property development.
